River Bank Men
While on a walk down the river Wye, i saw a large pile of debris that the river had dropped in a field during the flooding a few months ago, eager to find materials for model making, i had a look for dried grass and wood and things when i came across a dried reed stick that looked like a strange duck head. I continued picking up lots of different shaped reeds that looked interesting and carried them home, feeling very inspired and ready to do things with them.
It was on the way home when i devised a story for the creatures. The creatures are born on the river bed from things which get deposited, built by other creatures which were also created the same way. They continue living at the river bed as a tribe, building more and more creatures just like them selves, but all different.
Below are close up photographs of the reeds that i gathered
Below are drawings and character designs that i have drawn from the reeds. I will choose my favorite ones in the end to develop into plaster pieces for the final exhibition.
